Welcome to Almonte
Almonte is a community rich in eclectic individuals from creative, professional and other diverse backgrounds. These people collectively form the flavour of Almonte’s downtown. The personalities of new small business owners, long-established local business people, professionals in technology and knowledge-based industries and the large variety of arts-based professionals are what give the town flamboyance and bring visitors back to downtown Almonte again and again – many to stay for good!

The commercial mix in Almonte reflects the variety of professionals and others who work there – local services, retail, art and crafts schools, design houses and studios, health care providers, fine-dining establishments, high-tech enterprise, research and development, specialty food shops and knowledge based services are all found within downtown Almonte.

Equally important to Almonte residents is the historical significance of the Almonte’s architecture and main streetscape. These built features, along with the natural riverscape that runs through the downtown area, are key items for the ongoing and future promotion of Almonte’s downtown main streets - to locals, visitors, shoppers and potential businesses.

Almonte is a “hidden gem” – both literally and figuratively – as Almonte’s downtown is not situated on a main traffic artery or even on a main road leading through town. Yet main street Almonte sparkles and is worth the extra investigation and effort that brings people downtown!

In a February 2007 focus group exercise, Almonte residents identified the following themes for their downtown:

Promotional organizers, and others involved in economic development and design in Almonte will be revisiting the branding of downtown Almonte. MAAP is looking for volunteers to get involved in these committees and keep the downtown revitalization process moving – please join MAAP and make sure your opinions are included!
